Who is Considered a First-Year Applicant?

A first-year applicant is one who has not yet graduated high school, or one who has graduated high school but has never attended college/university on a matriculated basis. Students who completed college credits while in high school but have not yet graduated from high school are still considered first-year students.

Admission Application Requirements for First-Year Applicants

 

  1. First Year  and a required $50 application fee

All students, regardless of citizenship, who are completing senior secondary school outside of the United States must demonstrate English proficiency by submitting English language test results from one of the following:

  • : Internet-based: 79; Computer-based: 213
  • : Overall band score of 6.5
  •  (PTE): PTE Academic overall score of 58 
  • : 105
  •  (ELS): ELS Intensive English level 112
  • Cambridge English 176 and above on either  , or  

Important Considerations:

  1. Results must be submitted via the official testing portal by application deadline. 
  2. Results submitted after the application deadline will be accepted. However, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions cannot guarantee that a decision will be delayed until test scores are received, as all applications undergo a review in alphabetical order after the application deadline.
  3. Preference will be given to the most recent test scores. 老司机福利社 does not superscore English proficiency tests results, if you are submitting multiple test scores.
  4. 老司机福利社 carefully reviews all individual Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking subscores. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions reserves the right to deny admission or recommend ESL to any applicant whose individual English language subscore falls below recommended minimums.

Waivers of English Language Proficiency Requirement

老司机福利社 will waive English proficiency requirement for applicants who completed 3 or more academic years in an American high school, as well as for applicants who:

  • Have earned a diploma from a U.S. regionally accredited high school within or outside of the U.S. where English is the only medium of instruction and where an applicant has completed English Composition I and II with a grade of 鈥淏鈥 or better (course designated as ESL, non-native, or which require a special support component, are not acceptable).
  • Have graduated from a secondary/high school where English was the only medium of instruction with either one of the following (or are in their final secondary school year):
    • a U.S. regionally-accredited high schools diploma
    • an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma
  • Have earned a score of 3 or higher on either AP English Language & Composition or AP English Language & Composition
  • Have or are predicted to achieve any or all of the following International Baccalaureate (IB) results:
    • obtained a score of 3 or higher on English Language & Composition or English Literature and Composition
    • obtained a score of 5 or higher in the Diploma Program higher level
  • Have received a score of A, B, or C on the GCE O-Level, A-Level, GCSE, or IGCSE English Language (First Language) exam
  • Have achieved or are predicted to achieve B or higher on GCE A-Level or AS-Level English Language or English Literature
  • Have achieved B/6 or higher on GCSE English Language or English Literature
  • Have achieved B/6 or higher on International GCSE or IGCSE English Language or English Literature (including First Language English, English A, English B, and Literature in English)
  • Have achieved B or higher on GCE O-Level English Language

Applicants who are completing senior secondary school in the following countriesmay be exempt from providing proof English language proficiency:

 

Applicants who wish to be considered for English proficiency waiver do not have to submit any additional documents beyond those required by their application. All waivers are evaluated individually at the time of application review. If additional documents are required, applicants will be notified by email.

All admission considerations are based on applicant academic records, which include official senior secondary school transcripts and exit examination results (including predicted examination results).

To become eligible for admission to 老司机福利社, applicants must demonstrate proof of completion of senior secondary school by the time of enrollment, by presenting final school transcripts (showing subjects taken and marks received) and results of compulsory school leaving examinations (if required by the education system of the country where education is being completed). This includes, but is not limited to:

  • West African Senior School Certificate
  • General Secondary Education Certificate
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Levels (O-Levels) and/or Advanced Levels (A-Levels)
  • Indian Standard XII Higher Secondary School Certificate
  • Bangladesh Higher Secondary Certificate
  • 袗褌褌械褋褌邪褌 芯 小褉械写薪械屑 袨斜褖械屑 袨斜褉邪蟹芯胁邪薪懈懈 (Certificate of Secondary General Education)

Be prepared to provide information required to verify your exam results.

Important:

  1. All transcripts must be sent by applicants senior secondary school directly to 老司机福利社 University. All transcripts must be received by application deadline.
    • Transcripts sent by the parent, education consultant, or by the applicant will not be accepted
  2. All First-year applicants must show transcripts that include subjects taken and marks received in years 9,10, 11 and 12. Exceptions apply if:
    1. Years 9 and/or 10 are not considered part of the senior secondary curriculum.
    2. Applicants are graduating from a senior secondary school in an education system where school transcripts are not kept and only examination results are available.
  3. If the applicant is applying in their final year of senior secondary school and final transcripts/examination results are not yet available, their school must provide the most recent transcript showing all subjects taken and marks received (including the most recent semester). The school must also provide a statement of the date when the final transcript will become available.
    • Final transcripts are required and must be provided by the school, to avoid revocation of an admissions decision.
  4. All official transcripts must be in English. Those not in English must be evaluated by an official credentialing agency. We recommend using one of the following agencies:
    1.  
      • if you use ECE, order the General Report with Grade Average
      • the Course Report will provide the course-by-course evaluation, GPA, accreditation and equivalency data
      • if you use SpanTran, order the Course Analysis (Course by Course) Report
    2.  
      • if you use WES, order the Document-by-Document Report

Other evaluation agency may be used if it is accredited by NACES, AACRAO, AICE, or TAICEP.

The evaluation must include the following:

  • A course-by-course credit and grade conversion
  • An indication whether the academic program is accredited
  • U.S. equivalent education level (including semesters and/or years if necessary)

Cambridge Curriculum

Applicants studying at secondary schools following the Cambridge curriculum will be expected to receive a minimum of six (6) passes with a mark of C or better. Admissions decisions are based on the O-level, GCSE and/or IGCSE examinations.

Note: Sending official transcript evaluations from the evaluation agency may add additional costs and will add 1-3 weeks to the application completion process. Plan to complete your application for admission and send your official transcript evaluations accordingly, and remember the application deadlines. This will ensure your decision is not delayed and does not cut into your immigration and visa processing times.

All international students (baccalaureate and beyond) must present proof of identity. One of the following two documents must be submitted at the time of application:

  • Copy of national ID, or
  • Copy of international passport (face page). This is recommended, for consistency purposes, as you will use it to apply for a visa and to travel to the U.S.

Note: Sending official test scores from the testing agency will add 3鈥6 weeks to the application completion process. Plan to complete your application for admission and send your official test scores accordingly, and remember the application deadlines. This will ensure your decision is not delayed and does not cut into your immigration and visa processing times.

Optional Materials are recommended but not required for evaluation of eligibility for admission:

  3. Standardized Test Scores.

Expected Grade Point Average:

New first-year international students are expected to have a GPA of 2.5 on the U.S. 4.0 scale (calculated by the Office of Undergraduate Admission at the time of admission application review). Students applying into Specialty Programs, Dual Degree programs, and other competitive admission programs must observe program-specific minimum GPA requirements.

Honors College admission preference is given to students who demonstrate clear intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to take an active role in their education and the College community. Applicants who meet the minimum GPA of 3.3 (on a U.S. 4.0 scale) are encouraged to apply.

 

Who is Considered a Transfer Applicant?

A transfer applicant is defined as someone who has graduated from high school (or earned a certificate of high school equivalency) and who has transferable college credits at the time of application to 老司机福利社, unless those credits were earned while the student was in high school.

  2. Admitted transfer students who wish to transfer courses from a non-US post-secondary institution into 老司机福利社 must provide an official evaluation of their certified transcripts by an approved credentialing agency. We recommend using one of the following agencies: 
    1.  
      • if you use ECE, order the General Report with Grade Average
      • the Course Report will provide the course-by-course evaluation, GPA, accreditation and equivalency data
      • if you use SpanTran, order the Course Analysis (Course by Course) Report
    2.  
      • if you use WES, order the Document-by-Document Report
