What person, course, or moment most influenced your ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç experience? How?
While being a student worker in the Science Laboratory I met Nancy Burke, Professor Roz Herlands and John Rokita. Each one had a significant influence on my ability to do research and continue my career in Environmental Science. I remain friends with these special people to this day.
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
Receiving my doctorate degree in 2012 is one of my proudest accomplishments. I always stress that learning is a life journey and earning my Ph.D at 55 was just part of my path.
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
Presently I am teaching Public Health as a seminar class to undergraduates. This part time position comes after a long career at UNLV constructing andmanaging a professional training program for those working with environmental hazards and needing certification to do so. I like that my life's work is the basis for my lessons in the Public Health seminar. I like teaching how so many things in Environmental Science and Public Health are connected.
How do you stay connected with ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
I still have my friends from my laboratory days in the area and I visit them whenever I can while on the east coast or keep in touch via Holiday greetings. I do read the newsletter as well.
What is something people may not know about you?
I have been living in Las Vegas since 1981 but probably know more about the Jersey Shore news than some locals because I have always missed "home" and want to stay connected until someday when I can move back to the area.
What advice do you have for current students who want to make the most out of their experience at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
Be engaged. Try to work in an internship that allows you to experience your career possibility. Take courses that may be outside your major but build your confidence and general knowledge, such as Economics and Environmental Science.

Briefly explain your occupation including job title and company name.
I work as a forensic examiner for the state of Washington’s Office of Forensic Mental Health Services and recently opened a private practice in NewJersey, Forensic Psychology Services, where I work as a forensic psychologist. I conduct court ordered evaluations to include competency to stand trial,criminal responsibility, violence risk, fitness to possess a firearm, and parental capacity, among others.
What person, course, or moment most influenced your ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç experience? How?
Dr. John White was my mentor throughout my undergraduate experience. I took all courses offered by him in the forensic psychology track and hesupervised my first internship experience at Courtyards Psychological Associates. Dr. White offered advice on what to consider when applying tograduate school, and he allowed me to use his research to complete my dissertation, which is now published through ProQuest. He also served as areader on my dissertation committee.
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
I became an internship site affiliated with ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç after several students expressed interest in the field of forensic psychology. It is an honor tobe able to give back to my alma mater while helping to educate future generations of clinicians.
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
I love that my work is always interesting and vital to the mental health field. My favorite part is being able to educate others on topics of mental health,working towards decreasing stigma and improving knowledge and accessibility to these services. I have had the privilege of working in probationdepartments, state agencies, jails/prisons, and community mental health centers, all of which have given me valuable insights into how mental health isviewed and prioritized. Part of the reason I wanted to start my private practice is to make these resources more accessible to others.
How do you stay connected with ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
I follow several social media accounts and learn about events through my sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha, Inc. I also stay connected through my internshipaffiliation.
What is something people may not know about you?
I experienced quite a bit of adversity in my younger years. That has led me to become a really down to earth person. I love spending time with my threedogs, traveling, and practicing piano. I am also an avid yogi.
What advice do you have for current students who want to make the most out of their experience at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
Take advantage of every opportunity to advance your future! You never know how you will feel about something until you give yourself the opportunity toform your own opinion. Whether it be an internship, research, or pursuing a new hobby, these experiences will shape you into the person you are meantto become.

Bob Helsabeck, Professor of Sociology, my trusted and inspiring advisor. I read a popular book, "What the Best Professors Do." It was like a manual ofProfessor Helsabeck's approach to teaching and advising.
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
Writing my book, "Everything Slows Down--My Hidden Life with Depression." A memoir in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç appears at several points. ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç gave methe writing and critical thinking skills I needed for this challenge. And the confidence!
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
As Senior Advisor, I coach talented young investors to communicate with clarity, conciseness, and conviction. It's rewarding work: one intern I coached isnow my boss!

Friends from my two "residencies" at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç--from the 70s and the 80s. And, of course, reading the first-rate publications. Finally, through my annual contributions.
What is something people may not know about you?
I was once a videotape editor for World Wrestling Federation (now WWE).
What advice do you have for current students who want to make the most out of their experience at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
Pick your courses by the professors. I can still remember ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç lectures--and lecturers--from 40-50 years ago. These won't be the easiest professors,but they will take you places you never imagined for yourself.

Professor Mulvihill was not just a mentor to me; he was a guiding light for all of his students at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç. His engaging teaching style and real-worldexperience made the curriculum easier to understand. He was passionate about ensuring his students succeeded in class, achieved their personalgoals, and made the most of their time at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç. His dedication made a lasting impact on me. As a true advocate for both ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç and the criminaljustice profession, he inspired me to pursue a career in this field in the near future.
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
My proudest personal accomplishment after graduating from ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç is my journey from being seen as a negative statistic to becoming a positive rolemodel for Atlantic City. When I became pregnant at 21 without a college degree, marriage, or financially stabled, I faced many stereotypes oftenassociated with my background. Rather than letting that define me, I committed myself to education and earned my bachelor’s degree. Now, as I pursuemy master’s degree, I am proud to be part of the percentage of successful individuals who contribute positively to my community. I strive to challengemisconceptions and highlight the strength and resilience of Atlantic City residents.
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
I enjoy my work in business development at Tower Investments because it allows me to build connections, create new business opportunities, and drivesales. This role has helped me sharpen my skills in community engagement, sales, strategic planning, and marketing. I began my journey at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉçUniversity, where I earned a degree in Criminal Justice. During my junior year, I joined Tower Investments in a sales and marketing role, where I focusedon marketing and event sales. After graduating, I transitioned into business development. Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Public Administration atLiberty University. Following, Master’s in Legal Studies to integrate business, justice, law, and policies. Additionally, I serve on the advisory boards for theSeton Hall Customer Experience Program and the Volunteer Center of South Jersey.

My advice for current ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç students is to prioritize networking. Get involved in campus activities, join clubs, and attend events to meet new peopleand build connections.

I'm a Coordinator of Accommodations for the Office of Disability Services at Rutgers University-Camden! I work with students who have disabilities toremove barriers to their educational experience through accommodations!
What person, course, or moment most influenced your ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç experience? How?
One of my favorite individuals on this planet, Jen Radwanski (ya know, the Associate Director of Graduate Admissions) changed the entire course of myprofessional career when I became a part of T.A.L.O.N.S (The Activity Leaders of New Students) in 2014. Volunteering with a group of amazing peers toensure smooth transitions for incoming freshmen life really gave me the tools to make my passions tangible and helped me realize my career goals were possible!
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
The Office of Disability Services can carry a stigma to it and students don't always feel comfortable with talking about their experiences. I've used mydegree in geology to create some pretty cool presentations by relating students and their unique needs to how rocks grow and form! I'll usually bring some samples of rocks and explain the unique ways in with they form to compare to students needing accommodations, which makes our officememorable and more approachable!
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
I love my job because I get to meet incredible students every single day. Every person comes with a story that I feel privileged to hear. I also enjoycoming up with solutions that create equal access and opportunity for students, in ways that they may not have thought possible prior to meeting me.
How do you stay connected with ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
Jen and I stay connected pretty regularly to catch up. I also enjoy staying up to date on the Geology program's social media when they go on trips!
What is something people may not know about you?
This is my whole personality at this point, but I teach Zumba and FitStix fitness classes! My love for Zumba actually started my freshman year atÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç in 2012 when I took classes on campus in the I-Wing Gym! That's what motivated me to get my license eventually in 2018.
What advice do you have for current students who want to make the most out of their experience at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç?
Take any kind of class that may interest you, even if it has nothing to do with your set major! I started ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç as a theater major, moved to marinebiology, teaching, then finally settled on geology after taking a random class about rocks! You never know what you might be interested in, so getinvolved in all the things both academically and socially!

Deputy Director for the Office of Low Earth Orbit Observations for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
What person, course, or moment most influenced your ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç experience? How?
Professor Richard Hager. His passion for Marine Science, his personable demeanor, and his ability to work with and help students grow and succeedhelped shape my own personal philosophy for leadership and mentoring. He was a confident and personable person who taught me to look forleadership qualities in others and to do what I can to help them grow. However, at the same time he made sure I understood that though we have to workhard, we must also take time for ourselves (work life balance before the term became trendy). He helped me grow as a person and taught me to strivefor my goals without burning out.
What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment that occurred after graduating in which ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a role?
My proudest professional accomplishment was receiving my commission in the United States Air Force. Most of college/schooling was not difficult forme, and I assumed Officer Training School (OTS) would be similar—but I was mistaken—OTS was very difficult and challenging. I can say that I trulyearned my commission in the USAF, and ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç played a large role there. ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç helped prepare me to succeed at OTS by helping me come out ofmy shell during my tenure there. Most of my life I was fairly shy and not outgoing. My time at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç helped me overcome that. The encouragementand non-judgmental attitude of both the staff and my fellow students allowed me to overcome my shyness and to become outgoing by teaching me to beconfident in myself. With the support of everyone at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç, I overcame my shyness and this helped me to mature as an individual. I can truly say thathis was one of the key things that helped me to succeed at OTS.
What do you like about the work you are doing now? Describe your career path.
My career path was a bit different than what I planned during my time at ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç. At ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç, I was accepted to 3 PhD programs, but turned them alldown to join the US Air Force. As a commissioned officer I did many interesting things in the Air Force: START treaty work, nuclear missile launchoperations, GPS satellite operations, and performing orbital analysis in Cheyenne Mountain. After my time with the Air Force, I transitioned to civilian lifeand supported the Department of Defense working on various satellite projects until I joined NOAA where I managed the Wallops Command and DataAcquisition Station near Chincoteague VA—in essence running a facility that downlinks satellite information for the nation. After a bit, I transitioned to mycurrent position as the Deputy Director for the Office of Low Earth Orbit Observations—where we build the nations low earth orbit meteorologicalsatellites. There are two things I like about my current position, the first is being able to shape the future of the nation’s weather satellites. We areplanning the architecture for next generation of satellites our nation will use through 2050. In addition, I like the flexibility that this position affords me togain new experiences—I am currently on a rotational assignment to the Office of Space Commerce (OSC), where I am helping the nation stand up aSpace Traffic Coordination operations center. This center will take over a portion of the operations currently done by the US Space Force for safety ofnavigation in space. It’s exciting to help lead a team of truly outstanding professionals as we plan the nation’s space architecture for low earth orbitingweather satellites and building out the operations center to achieve safety of navigation in space.

Take every opportunity to push yourself outside of your comfort zone to allow yourself to grow and achieve great things—that and have fun while atÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÉç—those memories will be cherished, and once you are done there, it’s a lot of work on the outside.
