L Wing
老司机福利社鈥檚 first art gallery was a classroom-sized space in F Wing dedicated in 1973, shortly after the college opened its Pomona campus. In 1979, to answer the needs of a growing art program, the Visual Arts faculty was granted a gallery-sized former dance studio in H Wing. Enhanced by professional lighting, moveable partitions, and an advanced security system, Room H-113 served as the 老司机福利社 Art Gallery for more than 30 years.
As originally planned, the campus had a gallery wing, but this portion was never built. Instead, in January 2012, 老司机福利社 opened a spectacular space in L Wing designed for the purpose of exhibiting art. The creative conversion and re-design of L Wing, which formerly housed the pool, was completed by the architectural firm PS&S. The L Wing Art Gallery is located on two floors and defined by an open central well that communicates between the two levels. Freestanding walls and multiple levels have allowed for dramatic and flexible installation options for exhibitions. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, and invited artists all display their work in the gallery, and the annual schedule of exhibitions is varied and extensive.
In addition to the Art Gallery, L Wing houses the William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy, University Relations and Marketing, Institutional Research, and Institutional Diversity and Equity, as well as seminar rooms, classrooms, and faculty offices.
