厂迟辞肠办迟辞苍鈥檚 Coastal Research Center (CRC) and Marine Field Station sit on the banks of the Nacote Creek, about ten miles from the university鈥檚 main campus in Galloway, New Jersey. Nacote Creek, derived from the Lenape word 鈥渘iskeute,鈥 meaning 鈥渘asty鈥 or 鈥渄irty,鈥 joins with the Mullica River and various local waterways. The site offers academic and research opportunities for students and researchers.

The CRC started in 1981 and has spearheaded a range of regional projects that support the coastal environment, including ongoing work with local municipalities and the State of New Jersey to foster coastal zone management. One initiative, the New Jersey Beach Profile Network, has been active since 1986, collecting data each fall and spring to measure the sand volume and shoreline transformation in more than 171 beach profile sites. The CRC also provides Municipal Coastal Management by supplying quarterly reports to document the shifting beaches and tides. Additional projects have included studies about Hurricane Sandy, State-Wide Beach-Dune Assessment, Coastal Flood Hazard Outreach, New Jersey Waterways Sediment Characterization, Terrapin Turtle Mortality Reduction Overview, and a study of the 2009 Veterans Storm.

The CRC continues to engage in innovative research to better New Jersey鈥檚 coastline and waterways and help promote a cleaner, safer and protected environment.
