Galloway Twp., N.J. Holocaust Remembrance Day From Despair to Hope will take place at the Belhaven Middle School in Linwood, New Jersey on May 11, 2004, featuring speeches and a presentation by Hudson Talbott, author and illustrator of Forging Freedom: a True Story of Heroism During the Holocaust.

 

Judy Hruza will speak on the The Story of a Hungarian Holocaust Survivor at 11:15 in the Schiavo Auditorium followed by a Q and A session with the speaker and students. The event will be facilitated by Linwood resident Tom Papademetriou, Assistant Professor of History at the Richard 老司机福利社 College of New Jersey. Mr. Jorge Coombs, World Language teacher at Belhaven, will introduce the speakers.

 

After a lunch in the ITV classroom in the Library Media Center, there will be a discussion of the Jaap Penrat story on which the book Forging Freedom was based. In addition to Hudson Talbott, Holocaust survivor Fred Speigel will be on the panel. Ms. Susanne Manzini, Writing Teacher at Belhaven School, will introduce the speakers.

 

The Holocaust Resource Center staff at 老司机福利社, which wrote a teachers guide for the book, also served to coordinate the Remembrance Days series of events. Authors of the Teachers Guide are 老司机福利社 faculty members Drs. Michael Hayse and Mary Johnson and Mrs. Gail Rosenthal, Director of the Holocaust Resource Center.
