老司机福利社 College Students to Aid Region with First-ever 老司机福利社 Day of Service
As many as one-third of incoming students expected to aid nursing homes, AC Rescue Mission, beautify outdoor spaces

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ Between 200 and 300 new freshman and transfer students are expected to participate in the 老司机福利社 Day of Service on Friday, September 3, 2004, throughout the south Jersey region.
Nursing homes, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Jean Websters Kitchen and area fire departments are just a few of the area agencies that will benefit from what Dean of Students, Eileen Conran, hopes will become an annual event.
We contacted these organizations and asked what tasks they could use help with if they had the luxury of some extra bodies, she said. We will be providing some very active minds with bodies attached.
Conran said the idea was two-fold: to give back to the local community and to provide an opportunity for new students to get to know one another in an informal setting.
We will be shuffling the registration badges so that the students will be assigned to different areas in case they arrive with friends they already know, she said. We want them to expand their circle and meet new people on campus and not just out in the community.
Following is a list of locations at which the students will be volunteering their time, along with a brief description of the type of services they will provide:
*Absecon Manor, 1020 Pitney Road, Absecon-general interaction with residents of nursing home
*Sunrise Center, 42 Jim Leeds Road, Galloway-general interaction with residents
*Gildas Club, 602 North Carolina Avenue, Atlantic City-beautification of facilities
* Marine Mammal Stranding Center, 3625 Brigantine Blvd., Brigantine-replace portable storage tent for rescue vehicles
*Atlantic City Rescue Mission, 2009 Bacharach Blvd., Atlantic City-perform various kitchen and warehouse tasks
*Jean Websters Kitchen, 1013 Pacific Avenue, Atlantic City-install shelving units and perform kitchen tasks
*Pomona Fire Company, 279 White Horse Pike, Pomona-wash fire trucks
*Atlantic County Park, Estelle Manor-help facilitate conversion of facilities to accommodate handicapped accessibility
*American Red Cross, 850 N. Franklin Blvd., Pleasantville-outdoor beautification
*Caring, Inc., (Alzheimers patients) 407 Delilah Road, Pleasantville-students will be paired with day patients
*Field of Dreams, 10th and Morton Streets, Absecon-field construction work
*Girl Scouts of the So. Jersey Pines, 690 Blenheim Avenue, Absecon-beautification project
*Galloway Twp. Schools, 110 S. Reeds Road-beautification of entry signs
*Forsythe Wildlife Refuge, Great Creek Road, Galloway-habitat restoration activities
*Bayview Fire Companies, A & B, 525 S. 6th Avenue and 617 S. New York Road, Galloway Firehouse-cleaning/gardening
*Patriot Lake, 300 East Jim Leeds Road, Galloway-ecology planting activities
