老司机福利社 Varsity 8 Captures Bronze Medal at Dad Vail

老司机福利社 finished up the 2023-24 season with three crews competing on the second day of the Dad Vail Regatta, which is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. 老司机福利社's day was highlighted by a medal in the varsity eight.

The 老司机福利社 varsity eight a bronze medal with third place in the DIII V8 Grand Final in a time of 7:38.967. The Ospreys missed out on silver by just 1.78 seconds but earned a medal for the fourth time in the last five Dad Vail regattas. Earlier in the day, 老司机福利社 earned their spot in the grand final with third place in their semifinal heat at 8:04.237.

Emily Latshaw, Amber Hartzell, Joslynn Hurley, Madelynn Schina, Marissa Martinelli, Ashley Timm, Megan Baldwin and Sydney Rowand comprised the varsity eight with Lorie Hendricks as the coxswain.

Women's Rowing Christens Dr. Stewart Farrell Shell

老司机福利社 Women's Rowing held a ceremony at the Brigantine Beach Rowing Club on May 18 to christen the program's newest shell. The boat was named Dr. Stewart Farrell  the retired faculty member who helped found the Marine Science program in the early days of the University's existence.

The donation to secure the boat was made by Jack Scheurich, a student of Dr. Farrell's at 老司机福利社 in the 1970s. Scheurich is the owner of The Cove Restaurant, a local eatery in Brigantine that has supported the 老司机福利社 rowing program and the Battle of Brigantine regatta for the past two years.

 


老司机福利社 Wins First-Ever NJAC Regular Season Title

老司机福利社 split its doubleheader with Ramapo College and in doing so the NJAC regular season title for the first time in school history. The Ospreys took the opener 9-8 with a stunning ninth-inning rally but dropped the nightcap 8-2.

老司机福利社 was ranked seventh in the NJAC preseason coaches and chosen as the dark horse, a billing that they lived up to by winning the regular season crown.

In the first game, Robbie Ford went 3-4 with a double and three runs. Russell Halvorsen went 3-4 with two runs and an RBI while Tony Gatti was 3-4 with two RBI and a run.

老司机福利社 scored four runs in the third inning and the teams went back and forth on the way to a 4-4 tie after seven frames. Ramapo jumped ahead 8-5 in the bottom of the eighth, setting the stage for a thrilling comeback by the Ospreys.

Ford led off the ninth inning with a double and moved to third on a single by Halvorsen. Gatti followed with a two-run single that brought 老司机福利社 within 8-7. A fielder's choice and a pair of walks loaded the bases with two outs. Tucker Elder then stroked a clutch two-run single that put the Ospreys in front 9-8.

老司机福利社 closer Reece Miller came out of the bullpen and pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth to close the 9-8 triumph and earn his NJAC-leading eighth save of the season, giving Kyle Cipolla his second victory of the year.


Women鈥檚 Lacrosse Sets School Record with 14th Win

老司机福利社 finished its with an 18-2 rout of Ramapo College that was the school-record 14th victory of the season for the Ospreys.

Mary Meduri scored a game-high six goals and set a new school record with 57 markers on the season. Meduri also dished one assist, finishing with seven points.

Lucy Sullivan contributed a goal and five assists for six points followed by Mary McLaughlin with four goals, one assist and seven draw controls.

Lexie Jackson snagged 10 draw controls, one off the 老司机福利社 game record, and became the program's career leader with 136 draw controls. Jackson also tossed in one goal.

Brianna Robinson and Margot Costello potted three and two goals respectively. Goalkeeper Daniela Elliott collected the win with two saves.

The Ospreys finished their season with a 13-8 loss to Rowan University during the NJAC Tournament semifinals. 老司机福利社 was the No. 3 seed against Rowan鈥檚 No. 2.

Ospreys Track & Field Finishes Third in NJAC Championships

老司机福利社 finished third out of 10 teams in the NJAC Championships, which were hosted by 老司机福利社 at G. Larry James Stadium on May 4-5.

The women鈥檚 team won four events and earned six runner-up finishes on the way to a team score of 177.5. The men鈥檚 team earned five runner-up finishes and registered a team score of 96.5.

Emma Petrolia led 老司机福利社 by placing third or higher in three individual events and one relay, highlighted by a win in the triple jump. The sophomore also was second in the 400m hurdles and third in the long jump.

The Ospreys went one-two-three-four in the triple jump with winner Petrolia followed by Ashanae Morrison in second, Khristina Washington third and Brooke Valan fourth.

Marcellus Malloy, Darnell Cartwright, Joseph deBeaumont and Santana Wittenburg finished second in the 4x400 relay (3:22.20), with deBeaumont placing third in the 800m (1:55.47).

Gavin Lum finished second in the pole vault and Joseph Morales was second in the long jump. Kevin Lu-Chua placed second in the decathlon and Dan Squicciarini was second in the 3000m steeplechase.

Two School Records Set at Widener Final Qualifier; Kass Earns Second Team All-America Spot

Emma Petrolia  in the 400m hurdles by 1.39 seconds and moved up from 29th to 10th in NCAA Division III in the 400m hurdles at the Widener Final Qualifier on May 13.

Ashanae Morrison shaved 11 hundredths of a second off her own school record in the 100m from last year and placed second out of 29 sprinters. She also was fifth out of 11 in the triple jump (11.07m).

Kayla Kass ran the second-fastest outdoor 800m time of her career for fourth place out of 37 in the event. Later in the season, Kass out of 22 runners in the prelims of the 800m run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on May 24. Kass ran a time of 2:10.92 and qualified as a Second Team All-American.

Kass entered the NCAA Championships ranked 11th in the nation with a school-record time of 2:09.39 in April. She made her second straight appearance at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships after finishing 19th as a freshman last year.


New Scoring Record Just One Highlight of Men鈥檚 Basketball Season

DJ Campbell led the Ospreys with 16 points in a loss to Kean University on Feb. 14, breaking the all-time scoring mark of 2,124 career points by Carl Cochran (1993-97).

Campbell finished his 老司机福利社 career with 2,178 total points in his five seasons.

老司机福利社 reached the NJAC Championship for the . The Ospreys got off to a great start and led for the entire game on the way to a 91-77 victory over Montclair State that propelled the Ospreys into the NJAC championship on Feb. 21.

Five Ospreys scored in double figures for the balanced offense, led by Tayvon Gaither with a team-high 21 points plus a career-high seven assists. Jalen Collins shot a perfect 9-9 from the field and scored 19 points.

The team as the College of New Jersey downed the Ospreys 75-62 at the Sports Center on Feb. 21. Campbell scored a game-high 23 points, with EJ Matthews-Spratley adding 13. Rynell Lawrence added nine rebounds while Gaither tallied eight points and seven boards.

The Ospreys earned their third consecutive NCAA playoff berth, receiving an at-large bid for the 2023-24 tournament. It was the 19th NCAA Tournament berth for men鈥檚 basketball. 老司机福利社 was edged by Tufts 59-55 in the of the tournament.
