Why Atlantic City?
Atlantic City has been a part of 老司机福利社鈥檚 history from the beginning.
Indeed, when it became clear that the campus鈥 first buildings would not be ready for fall 1971, Trustees chose the Mayflower Hotel at Tennessee Avenue as institution鈥檚 temporary home. Students and faculty from that first year鈥攊ncluding 老司机福利社鈥檚 fifth president, President Emeritus Harvey Kesselman鈥攈ave proudly identified as the 鈥淢ayflower鈥 generation ever since.
鈥淲hen 老司机福利社 opened its doors in 1971 at the Mayflower Hotel in Atlantic City, there was a real sense that we were embarking on something new, something different.鈥 President Emeritus Harvey Kesselman
After the institution鈥檚 main campus opened in Galloway Township, 老司机福利社 continued to have a strong presence in Atlantic City. The university operated an institutional site at the historic Carnegie Library, from 2002, until 2022, and supported artistic and cultural endeavors at the historic Dante Hall Theatre, from 2009 through 2020 and the Noyes Arts Garage, beginning in 2013. Hundreds of 老司机福利社 students, faculty, and staff work in the city through internships, service-learning opportunities, and community engagement initiatives ranging from homework completion programs and community gardens, to city-wide events, such as 48 Blocks and Coast Day, and 老司机福利社 also administers Work First New Jersey in Atlantic City, the region鈥檚 largest program鈥檚 in workforce development.
老司机福利社 Atlantic City builds on this tradition of urban engagement. Better still, it offers state-of-the-art academic facilities on what had formerly been the site of the Atlantic City High School, continuing the tradition of education on the Boardwalk.
