With a growing need for morale-boosting activities on the home front during WWII, the first women鈥檚 professional baseball league was created. Existing from 1943-1954, the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) formed the foundation for women鈥檚 professional sports. In this course, learn about history of the league, including the training, rules, and players.

Patty Chappine is an adjunct professor at 老司机福利社. Her recent book New Jersey Women during World War II: On the Home Front and Abroad was published by Lexington Books in 2024.

In the first half of this course, we will review the history of immigration and citizenship policy in the United States - from the Revolutionary period to today. In the second half of the course, we will take a special look at an anthropological study written by Dr. Emily Fogg Mead(e), an early American sociologist and scholar of Italian immigration (and mother to anthropologist Margaret Mead!). We will read Dr. Meade's The Italians on the Land, written about Italian immigrants to Hammonton, NJ and discuss how her work sheds light on the complexities of immigration and xenophobia in the South Jersey region in the late 1800s-early 1900s. This course is being presented with support from the Historical Society of Hammonton.

Dr. Jess Bonnan-White is a Professor of Criminal Justice at 老司机福利社 and an affiliated faculty member of the MA in Holocaust and Genocide Studies program. She studies homeland security and policing and is currently engaged in a long-term research project on policing in Northern Ireland. She has a BA in Archaeology (Washington University - St. Louis), an MA in Anthropology (Northern Illinois University), and a PhD in Anthropology (University of Iowa). Dr. Bonnan-White is a resident of Hammonton and is active in humanitarian work as a volunteer with the New Jersey Region of the American Red Cross.

During WWII, women worked for the defense industry as welders, riveters, machinists, and much more. In this course, learn about the real-life Rosie the Riveters who stepped into new roles and became an essential part of the war effort.

Participants will discuss the emotional and cultural impact of books, share meaningful passages, and celebrate the joy of literature in a collaborative space. Bring your love for reading and your favorite passages as we create a shared space to celebrate and reflect on the joy and importance of literature.

The history of cannabis is long, complex, and fascinating. While it has been used in a variety of ways by humans for many years, we have a complicated relationship with the plant today. To understand more about this controversial flowering herb, we can look to major historical events, public policy and public opinion, and marijuana messaging over the last century to gain insight about the continued federal prohibition, despite state-by-state legalization.

Professor Angela Speakman is a member of the teaching staff for the Hemp and Cannabis Business Management degree program at 老司机福利社. Also, she is the Founder/CEO of Elucidation Strategies, a cannabis education and planning agency.

Using dual French and English, Session I includes special techniques for adult learners, beginners or intermediates. Included are class exercises with French words and phrases recognizable in English, expressions useful for personal needs (travel, business or simply friendship and cultural interests). Scholars claim that language learning creates new neural pathways in the adult brain, keeping it active and healthy.

Professor Jacques Press is an experienced instructor with an international background who spent many years at 老司机福利社. Fluent in French and English, he has conducted several conversation classes to local adults, under the direction of 老司机福利社鈥檚 Office on Continuing Studies. Currently, he facilitates regular French online weekly meetings to a wider community of interest.
